Matthew Campisi has enjoyed a versatile career as a pianist, tenor, pedagogue, and liturgical musician. He is a recent graduate of the Eastman School of Music, where he earned a Master’s Degree in Vocal Performance and Literature. While at Eastman, Mr. Campisi performed the role of Tobias in Sweeney Todd, Mr. Plume in The Impresario, and was a member of the ensemble in Don Giovanni. He also performed the role of Orfeo in La Carnaval de Venise with Eastman Collegium. In the 2018-2019 season, he was the tenor soloist in Haydn’s The Seasons with the Eastman-Rochester Chorale and Eastman Philharmonia. In 2020 and 2022, he was a member of the Tomita Young Artist Program at Finger Lakes Opera.

Equally passionate as a teacher, Mr. Campisi is the Director of the Roberts Community Music School at Roberts Wesleyan University. In addition to overseeing and developing the entire program, he maintains an active piano and voice studio. His students have received numerous local, All-State and All-National honors and have gone on to study at other prestigious programs such as: New York University, Point Park University, New England Conservatory, The Hartt School, Rider University, and Yale School of Music. He was also the music director at Mercy High School in Middletown, Connecticut from 2016-2018, where he built an award-winning choir program and rejuvenated the music department.

In addition to traditional voice instruction, Mr. Campisi has studied (and continues to study) Breath work, Body work, Alexander Technique, Postural Restoration, Biotensegrity, Myo-fascial release, Anatomy and Physiology, and Kinesiology. All of these disciplines form the basis to create a holistic approach to singing, and he enjoys working with singers to help them release their true vocal potential.

Active in Liturgical Music, Mr. Campisi began playing in his home parish of St. Sebastian Church in Middletown, Connecticut at age 12. By age 15, he was appointed Music Director at St. Colman Church in Middlefield, Connecticut, where he built and directed a choir of over 30 singers. In 2013, he led the Saint Colman Choir on a choir tour of Rome, which included singing a mass in Saint Peter’s Basilica and a performance at a Papal audience.

Mr. Campisi is a student of Ruth Williams Hennessy, and has also studied voice with Dr. Robert Barefield, Cherie Caluda and Claude Corbeil. Piano studies with Dr. Paul Rutman. Masterclasses with Susan Graham, Sondra Kelly, Sharon Sweet, and Randall Scarlata.

Aside from music, Mr. Campisi is a huge sports fan— especially of Uconn Men’s and Women’s Basketball, New York Yankees and New England Patriots. He is a certified athletic trainer and enjoys helping people achieve their fitness goals.
